In the first Autumn half term in Mathematics we will be developing our number recognition and counting skills. We will be looking at numbers in lots of different ways to recognise numbers up to 20 as pictures and sets of objects quickly. We will be practising counting on and back in 1s to 20 and working out one more and one less than numbers up to 20. We will be adding and taking away using these number skills. We will use a range of objects and number tracks to link our counting knowledge with adding and taking away. While learning about addition and subtraction we will be practising our number bonds to 10, learning which pairs of numbers add to make numbers up to 10. Towards the end of the half term we will be recapping children’s knowledge of 2D and 3D shape from Reception, naming and describing simple properties of shapes, such as how many sides and corners a 2D shape has, or how many vertices (points), faces and edges a 3D shape has.
