Parent Governor Elections

We are excited to announce that we have two vacancies for parent governors which we would like to fill as soon as possible through an election process.  This is a great opportunity to play a role in helping to shape our school and supporting our children to 'Sparkle & Shine'.

Who are our parent governors and what do they do?

Parent governors bring a very important and valued perspective to the work of the governing body.  All our governors can make a real difference to the performance of the school and have a real part to play in making the school successful.

The school's governing body is a committee of the Willows Academy Trust Board of Directors and is responsible for oversight of the school.  Its responsibilities include the strategic focus of the school, the well-being of pupils and their educational achievement, and ensuring appropriate use of the school budget.

Governing body meetings are held on a Monday, currently at 3:30pm using Microsoft Teams.  Meetings usually last approximately 2 hours.  There are 6 meetings a year plus some additional visits and discussions. Training sessions are usually incorporated into these meetings, although some additional online training is also required.

If you are interested, please read 'Could you become a governor?' which gives more information about the role.

Could you become a parent governor?

  • Do you currently have a child or children in our school?
  • Have you got an open and enquiring mind?
  • Are you willing to listen and make informed judgements?
  • Do you work well with others?
  • Are you interested in education generally and our school in particular?
  • Do you want to play a part in improving our school?
  • Have you got the time to give about 12 hours each term to attend meetings and read and consider relevant information?

No special qualifications are needed and the most important things are to have a keen interest in the school and being prepared to play an active part in the governing body’s work.  However, we would particularly welcome nominations from parents with knowledge or experience in the education or early years sector, human resources or data analysis.

Please also read the important information on 'Eligibility' which outlines the circumstances under which someone cannot serve as a governor.

Most importantly we are seeking parent governors who are committed to the school community and share our passion for supporting our children to 'Sparkle & Shine'.
