We will be linking the stories that we focus on this half term to our Topic, ‘People Who Help Us’. We will be continuing to look at story settings and the way stories are structured. We will be learning about non-fiction books and how we can use these to get information. The children will be continuing to learn the phonic sounds (phonemes) for individual letter shapes (graphemes) and whilst some children are consolidating the digraphs (2 letters that make one sound, e.g. ch and ar) and trigraphs (3 letters that make one sound, e.g. igh and ear) by using these in our reading and writing, others will be looking at consonant clusters (letters that are in lots of words together but keep their own sounds, e.g. nk, st and br). The children will be continuing to learn the alphabet sequence. The children will continue to practise writing labels, short captions and sentences in a range of contexts using their phonic and tricky word (non-decodable word) knowledge. We will be continuing to introduce and develop punctuation, such as using finger spaces, capital letters and full stops.
