School Admissions

Admissions to Sawley Infant School are processed by Derbyshire County Council's  Local Authority Coordinated Admissions Scheme.

The Admissions link below will open the Derbyshire Council Primary Admissions page where you will find guidance about application dates and access to online application forms for school places. Applications can also be made via post or over the phone.

If you would like to appeal against a decision, please scroll down the page for further information on making an appeal.

If your child attends a school outside of Derbyshire, they may operate a different pattern of education.  Please see the Derbyshire County Council website or contact the school for further information.

In-year admissions - to move or change schools

In-Year Admissions

If you would like to make an in-year admission to move or change schools, please contact the Derbyshire County Council Admissions team at any point in the year. If we do not have a school place in the year you have applied for, we will add your details to a waiting list managed in accordance with our admissions policy and admissions criteria.

Nursery Admissions 

  • Admissions to Sawley Nursery School are managed by the school admin team. 
  • Please contact us if you wish to add your child's name to the waiting list. 
  • Your child's name can be added to the waiting list at any time from birth.
  • We will then contact you as your child approaches nursery age to let you know if a place is available.
  • Children can start Nursery the term after their third birthday.  
  • We have Nursery intakes in September, January and  April and throughout the year if space allows.

A place at Sawley Nursery cannot guarantee a place at Sawley Infant School due to the National Admissions Code.  

A place at Sawley Infant School does not guarantee a place at Sawley Junior School.

We are two separate schools - both part of ONE Academy Trust.

We have a number of tours scheduled for parents to visit the school - please contact the office to book a place.

  • Application period: Applications round opened on  November 11, 2024 and closes on January 15, 2025
  • Offer day:  April 16, 2025 (National Offer Day) 
  • Appeal deadline: Appeals must be submitted by May 21, 2025
  • Main appeal hearing: The main round of appeals is usually heard by July 21, 2025
  • Waiting list maintenance: Waiting lists are maintained until December 31, 2025
  • If you apply online you'll also be able to log on to the website to view your offer.

  • If you don't have an email address, your offer will be posted, second class, on 16th April 2025

Admission Appeals Information

If you're unhappy with the decision you can make a primary school admissions appeal

In-year admissions only

  • If your appeal relates to an in-year admission you should submit your appeal within 20 days of being told that your application was unsuccessful. 

Intake admission round

  • If your appeal is for a child transferring to a junior school or starting an infant or primary school in September and you are told of the decision on National Offer Day you should submit your appeal by the appeal deadline day

  • If you are told of an infant, junior or primary decision after National Offer Day or it relates to an in-year admission you should submit your appeal within 20 days of being told that your application was unsuccessful.

Consultation on proposed change to admission arrangements for Sawley Infant and Nursery School 2025/2026

Admissions 2025/2026

The trustees of ONE Academy Trust (the Admissions Authority) last consulted on the admissions arrangements for Sawley Infant & Nursery School in Autumn 2023 for admissions in 2025/26, in accordance with the statutory requirements set out in the School Admissions Code.  The consultation ran from Monday 20th Nov 2023 - Monday 8th Jan 2024. The purpose of the consultation was to change the Admissions Authority from Willows Academy Trust to ONE Academy Trust and re-format the document.  There were no changes to the admissions arrangements.

The ONE Academy Trust Admissions Policy and the admissions arrangements for Sawley Infant & Nursery School are available on our school website and on the ONE Academy Trust website.  Copies are available on request.
