The pupil premium grant is allocated to schools for the specific purpose of raising the attainment of disadvantaged pupils. It is intended to support eligible pupils of all abilities to reach their potential and to provide support for children of low income families, children who are, or have been, in the care of the local authority and those with parents in the armed forces. Funding is based on children who have been eligible, and have registered, at any point in the last 6 years.
This additional funding is provided to schools to ensure provision is targeted at closing the gap between this group of pupils who may be disadvantaged in comparison to their peers, based on the analysis of outcomes over time.
